An alligator can go through about 3,000 teeth in its lifetime

An American alligator has roughly 74 to 80 teeth in its mouth at any one time. As they wear down or break, new ones grow in to replace them, and the Smithsonian's National Zoo puts the lifetime total at about 3,000.

Even stranger: an alligator egg doesn't have a set sex. The temperature of the nest during early development decides whether a hatchling is male or female. Warmer nests tend to produce males and cooler nests tend to produce females, with a mix in between.
