Mr. Wildside fun fact
A 2,000-pound bison can run 35 miles per hour
Bison are North America's heaviest land mammals. According to the National Park Service, bulls weigh around 2,000 pounds and cows about 1,100.
Don't let the bulk fool you. Bison can run up to 35 miles per hour and jump over objects about 5 feet high.
In winter, they swing their huge heads from side to side like snowplows to clear the snow and reach the grass underneath.
That speed is one more reason to give them plenty of room in Yellowstone.
